House vs. NCAA
Sportico’s Daniel Libit and USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz on the House vs. NCAA case as Judge Wilken requesting that the sides get back to figure out one remaining issue, which is to figure out a phased in roster limits rather than just cut it to 105. Both articles are to respected journalists if you want a better understanding of this issue. From the Libit article:
Wilken, in a five-page order, said she could not approve the agreement unless it was changed to mitigate the harm caused by the immediate implementation of roster limits. Rather than rejecting the settlement outright, the judge offered the parties 14 days to confer, along with their mediator and several objectors’ attorneys, on modifications to the settlement.
On the Diamond
Texas Tech softball dropped UT-Arlington 12-3 yesterday afternoon and in the process Mihyia Davis recorded the first cycle in program history.
On the Hardwood
CBS Sports has their All-Transfer Team and JT Toppin was the Transfer of the Year. Here’s a bit:
There was no other choice for the TOY than Toppin, who doubles as a CBS Sports First Team All-America honoree. Texas Tech had a terrific second season under Grant McCasland: a 28-9 record, including a rare second-place showing in the Big 12; top-10 finishes in multiple advanced metrics; a No. 3 seed in the NCAAs; and an Elite Eight run that ended dramatically, 84-79, to eventual national champion Florida. (OK, that loss was agonizing, but the season on the whole was one of the best in school history.) At the center of this revitalization was Toppin, a powerful power forward who arrived via New Mexico last May.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese on what he would recommend to finish out the roster:
The two biggest pieces the Red Raiders could stand to add are a proven point guard and another big, preferably one in the 7-foot range.
The big man will be hardest to get at this juncture. One name that jumps out is Joshua Ojianwuna, the 6-foot-10 big who is in the portal out of Baylor.
There are more options for the point guard spot, though it depends on what kind of role they’re looking for Anderson to have next season. Is he moving to the true ball-handler role, staying at the off-guard spot? Most likely it’ll be a combination of the two, so Texas Tech mainly needs somebody who can run the offense and find the slew of shooters on the floor, much like Elijah Hawkins, just not at as high of a level. That would be asking too much.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello with his too early top 25 with Texas Tech at No. 4:
Grant McCasland’s team had the biggest rise from the first iteration of the rankings on championship Monday to the mid-April update. The biggest move was the return of JT Toppin, the surefire preseason All-American who dominated the second half of the season. And LeJuan Watts, a versatile and skilled wing forward, would be a seamless replacement for Darrion Williams if he opts to remain in the portal or NBA draft. Christian Anderson should also take a step forward in his sophomore season.
Projected starting lineup
Christian Anderson (10.6 PPG)
Donovan Atwell (13.3 PPG at UNC Greensboro)
Tyeree Bryan (10.4 PPG at Santa Clara)
LeJuan Watts (13.7 PPG at Washington State)
JT Toppin (18.2 PPG)
On the Gridiron
I think this is a big loss, but Joseph Adedire will enter the transfer portal as will receiver L.J. Johnson, Jr.
Texas Tech DE/EDGE Joseph Adedire is set to enter the transfer portal. his agent @ZCardenez tells @RivalsFriedman.

I would like to thank Texas Tech for everything they’ve done for me, i’m blessed to have had the opportunity to be around a great team, staff and academic advisors. After much thought and prayer I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility ! pic.twitter.com/9caSYFJW8H
