Villanova forward Josiah Moseley (6-6/228) is the latest player to commit to Texas Tech. Moseley was a freshman last year originally from Round Rock and played in 30 games last year averaging about 10 minutes a game while averaging 1.9 points, 2.3 boards while making 58% of his shots, and 67% of his free throws. Advanced stats say that Moseley was a terrific offensive rebounder and good shooter as well as high-end offensive player. It was limited minutes and was a true freshman so there was no need to have huge expectations. Moseley has a good shot, and he will need to that as an undersized power forward. He’s constantly cutting to the basket, which is probably part of Villanova’s offense, and he also finishes well with contact.

And you win one and lose one, as Federiko Federiko has entered the transfer portal. Federiko averaged nearly 19 minutes a game, 5.1 points, 4.5 boards, and 0.8 blocks a game. Walk-on Corbin Green also entered the portal and he didn’t receive a ton of minutes. The natural inclination is to think that Marial Akuentok will just take all of those minutes and I’d caution you to press the brakes on that just a bit. Akuentok was pretty raw and I think it also dimishes 4 years of experience that Federiko had, while Akuentok really has no experience other than practice time. Not saying that Akuentok can’t fill some of those minutes, he’ll need to do so, but not certain that he’ll just step in for Federiko and be an equal or better player. I think Texas Tech will absolutely hunt for another big man.

Kevin Overton has found a home at Auburn.

Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year Nolan Groves (6-5) is on an official visit to Texas Tech. Groves is a shooting guard and averaged over 34 points a game, 8 boards, and 6 assists a game. Texas Tech was the first to offer Groves recently, but he was quickly offered by Wisconsin and Minnesota (why didn’t they have an offer to him prior to this?).
