On the Diamond
No. 14 Texas Tech is in Tucson to take on No. 12/13 Arizona for a 3-game series, the first game starts tonight and will be on ESPN+, Friday is on FS1 and Saturday is on ESPN2. Details are at the link, but this is obviously a huge series for these ladies.
Texas Tech baseball is in Tempe to take on Arizona State for the weekend series starting tonight.
On the Hardwood
Texas Tech walk-on Corbin Green has entered the transfer portal. Not a huge surprise and thus far Darrion Williams, Kevin Overton, Eemeli Yalaho, and Green are in the portal.
Texas A&M forward Jada Malone has committed to Texas Tech, averaging 8.7 points, 4.9 boards, and making 63% of her shots.
Villanova forward Josiah Moseley (6-6/228), originally from Round Rock, visited Texas Tech yesterday. Moseley only averaged 10 minutes a game, 1.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and shot 58% from the field last year, so not a tnoof playing time. Moseley was a 4-star player coming out of the 2024 class.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello on his way too early top 25 rankings and your Red Raiders are at No. 3:
As mentioned above, McCasland’s team had the biggest rise since the first iteration of the rankings on championship Monday. The biggest move was the return of JT Toppin, the surefire preseason All-American who dominated the second half of this past season. But the addition of LeJuan Watts, a versatile and skilled wing forward, ensures a seamless replacement for Darrion Williams if he opts to remain in the portal or NBA draft. Christian Anderson should also take a step forward in his sophomore season.
CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish with his Top 25 And 1 with Texas Tech at No. 6:
This ranking is based on the Red Raiders returning three of the top nine scorers – specifically JT Toppin, Christian Anderson and Federiko Federiko – from a team that finished 28-9 and advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. That core will be joined by Washington State transfer LeJuan Watts, UNC Greensboro transfer Donovan Atwell and redshirt freshmen Marial Akuentok.
On the Gridiron
I don’t know how much I’ll be able to keep track of the transfer portal for football. Isaac Smith, Nick Fattig, Anthony White, and Dylan Shaw are a few.
CBS Sports on the most valuable player for each top-25 team:
24. Texas Tech
MVP: David Bailey, EDGE
Bailey is the crown jewel of Texas Tech’s loaded transfer haul, and he fills an immediate need for the Red Raiders. They had 21 sacks as a team last season. No individual players finished with more than five sacks. Bailey got to the quarterback seven times at Stanford, which means he would have accounted for a third of Tech’s sack production by himself. Landing players like Bailey will go a long way towards fixing a Texas Tech defense that ranked near the bottom of the Big 12 in 2024.
