On the Hardwood

Krista Gerlich announced staff changes over the weekned, including the departure of Ashley Odom and Plenette Pierson from the staff and reassigned Jordan Vessels and Mitch Vanya to Director of Operations of Video and Scouting Operations. Odom was the recruiting coordinator and followed Gerlich from UTA and Pierson is a Texas Tech Hall of Famer and had 4 years on the staff.

Gemma Nunez (5-7), a point guard from Campbell, has committed to the Lady Raiders where she averaged 7.8 points, 6.2 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 steals a game for the Fighting Camels.

“Gemma is one of the best returning floor generals in the country with an elite assist rate and high offensive efficiency,” Gerlich said. “Her ability to make the correct read and distribute the ball in traffic will elevate her teammates’ ability to score. She has an extremely high motor and high basketball IQ. We are thrilled she is a Lady Raider and look for her to have an immediate impact on our team.”

This is something that I’d watch. Nolan Groves (6-5/200) is the Minnesota High School Player of the Year and was committed to Yale until this past weekend where he’s now been offered by Texas Tech. Groves averaged 34.1 points a game He’s not rated and has now been offered by Minnesota and Wisconsin along with Texas Tech.

On the Gridiron

CBS Sports’ Richard Johnson on the situation regarding Nico Iamaleava, who had signed a 4-year deal with Tennessee out of high school, got to spring practice and wanted more money. Tennessee decided to pass and now he’s no longer part of the program. Texas Tech was initially linked to Iamaleava by the absolutely terrible Barstool Texas Tech X/Twitter account and that was personally shot down quite nicely by Cody Campbell.

Red Raider Sports’ Joe Lopez on tackle Will Jados:

“Learning a new offense is obviously hard, but I mean, new team, new coach, everything like that, just a whole lot of new and so we’re kind of finding that groove and really working together with the guys beside you. And as Howard (Sampson) said, the competition is phenomenal. Like every position you got a guy where you’re like, holy cow, this is a good player. And so that part’s been awesome.”

Another episode of What’s Next with Joey McGuire (I haven’t had a chance to listen).
