UNC Greensboro guard Donovan Atwell (6-5/190) committed on Sunday. Atwell averaged 13.3 points a game, 3.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.3 turnovers and 0.6 steals last year while shooting 40.2% from the field and 39.8% from beyond the 3-point line and making 90.6% of his free throws.

Atwell doesn’t really rebound or dish the ball, but he’s there to shoot the ball. Advanced stats say that he doesn’t turn the ball over and he’s shooting the ball, 218 total shots were from beyond the arc while just 98 were behind it. That’s 64% of his shots from deep and 80% of his shots are assisted meaning he’s not creating his own shot for the most part.

Kevin Overton announced that he was entering the portal after averaging 8.7 points and 3.7 boards this past year. Overton’s playing time was highly dependent on his defensive effort and I don’t know that his shot translated, just 42% from the field and 33% from beyond the 3-point line. It seems as if Grant McCasland want shooters and Overton maybe doesn’t fit that mold. I can say that Texas Tech doesn’t beat Florida without Overton.
