Christian Anderson confirmed that he’s running it back with Texas Tech so that’s fantastic news. Maybe the best news of the day.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on the Texas Tech defensive line:

Fitch has Lee Hunter, Jayden Cofield and Keyshawn Williams working at noseguard. He has Skyler Gill-Howard, A.J. Holmes, Amier Washington and Dooda Banks — Banks is missing spring drills to rehab from knee surgery — at defensive tackle.

Hunter’s a 6-foot-4, 325-pound senior who earned second-team All-Big 12 recognition last year for Central Florida. Gill-Howard is a 6-1, 290-pound senior who garnered third-team All-Mid-American Conference honors last year for Northern Illinois. Holmes is a 6-3, 300-pound junior who started every game last season for Houston and earned high quarterback-pressure grades from Pro Football Focus.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on cornerback Dontae Balfour:

Balfour’s one of four corners the Red Raiders brought aboard in January, the others Brice Pollock from Mississippi State, Amier Boyd from Texas-El Paso and Tarrion Grant from Purdue. The Red Raiders also return junior Maurion Horn, who started every game last season, and sophomore Macho Stevenson, who played in 12 games and started three.

“This just creates competition,” Horn said. “Who runs away from competition? You’ve just got to face it. We’re all going to compete. We’re all going to play.”

Cornerbacks coach Darcel McBath said Balfour told him he wants to be coached hard. McBath said Balfour responds.
