Starting 5

1. Stats. Kansas is a lot like Texas Tech in that they simply is not a team that gets to the line very much, 356th in the nation, but they just haven’t shot as well as they have in the past, just 140th in 3-point shooting and 74th in 2-point shooting. They are 125th in turnover percentage and 182nd in offensive rebounding, so they just not a tenacious offensive team. Defensively, Kansas still has teeth, they are 10th in 3-point shooting defense and 12th in 2-point shooting defense. The Jayhawks don’t allow a lot of offensive rebounds, 68th overall, and 62nd in free throw rate. They play solid defense, but don’t force turnovers, 259th.

2. Scouting. Dickinson is the best offensive player and Bill Self said that he would start the offense going through Dickinson more down the stretch. Dickinson is a terrific offensive and defensive rebounder and shot blocker. Bidunga is also an elite rebounder and he can shoot the heck out of the ball when he does, making 74% of his shots. Mayo is the best 3-point shooter, making 40% of them, and he’s really the biggest threat. Harris is the best facilitator on the team.

3. How They Match Up. If there is no Williams or McMillian I don’t like Texas Tech’s chances. I shouldn’t be so negative and if anything, Texas Tech has shown the ability to stay in games despite being down players. Having Williams would help significantly and having almost 4 days off to recover has probably been significant. The photo below does feature McMillian so there’s that.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

With a 6-2 road record and only three regular-season games remaining, it’s now time for No. 10 Texas Tech to take heed on a matchup against Kansas which set for 1 p.m. on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. The 52nd game in the all-time series between Texas Tech and Kansas will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN Radio while the Texas Tech Sports Network radio call can be heard locally on Double T 97.3, and on the Varsity app.

“I know the grit that it takes to do it and it has to be from the beginning,” Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. “The urgency to start the game and approach can’t be tight, but it also can’t be loose. There has to be a balance of fight and grit that is accompanied with the heighten awareness of execution that you have your compete level to the highest level. You have to trust each other. There is a unique part of going into this building that you have to be prepared for. It’s an awareness that the game can get away from you if you don’t compete with an edge. You better be an aggressive team to start. You can’t be on your heels.”
