Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams: Texas Tech baseball alters rotation for home-opening series against UC Irvine
Tech has 23 pitchers on staff and used 10 in the North Carolina series. The positive was the pitching was mostly solid. The down side was a lot of arms sat idle.
“There’s not enough innings for bodies,” Tadlock said, “and you always feel really bad when a weekend’s over and there’s guys down there that you know are going to be big contributors and they don’t get on the mound.”
Tadlock singled out sophomore righthanders Parker Hutyra and Logan Bevis and freshman lefthander Jordyn Espinoza as examples of “guys I know that we’re going to count on” who didn’t pitch last weekend. He added freshman righthander Logan Addison and junior righthander Daniel Bass have “power arms and really good stuff” and mentioned sophomore righthander Zachary Petchel as another example.

Despite a 3-for-4 day and a two-run home run from TJ Pompey, Texas Tech Baseball fell 6-4 to UC Irvine Friday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
In the setback, Texas Tech (0-4) got 5.1 strong innings from relievers Tyler Boudreau, Zane Petty and Logan Bevis, but were unable to overcome an 0-for-11 performance with runners in scoring position and a 1-for-14 performance with runners on base.
Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent: Way Off Base With Jamie Lent: Blogging Red Raider Baseball
The Tech bullpen continues to be stellar and really impressive. So far through 4 games they have pitched 21.2in and have allowed 6 earned runs and have struck out 27 batters. The problem is, the starting rotation has not been nearly as good. All 4 starts have been underwhelming at this point and we need to see that changing soon. I think the talent is there. It just needs to start showing up on the field.
On to the offensive side of things where the hitting with runners in scoring position issue is starting to make me worry a bit. I know we are just 4 games in but 2 for 38 is an extremely ugly stat. This team needs to find a way to generate offense without hitting homers if they are going to be the team that I think they can be.
