Starting 5

1. Stats. Baylor is still a really good team. They got down to Kansas over the weekend and stormed back to win at home. Offensively, they are a good shooting team, 64th in 3-point shooting and 136th in 2-point shooting. They shine in offensive rebounding, 25th, and turnover percentage, 80th. They don’t get to the line very much, 291st overall. Defensively, they struggle to guard the 3-point line, 319th in the nation, and don’t guard inside the arc particularly well either, 172nd overall. The Bears will turn teams over, 44th in the nation, but do allow offensive boards, 212th, and free throws, 229th.

2. Scouting. Omier is probably the best player. Offensively, I think he does a ton for them and shoots 64% from the field, a terrific rebounding on both ends of the court, and gets a decent amount of steals and blocks. Both Omier and Edgecombe have the high usage rate for the Bears, so expect to see the ball in their hands quite a bit. Edgecombe is really good for a freshman, a big guard who is a good shooter, but not great by any means. Ojianwuna is a rebounding machine when he plays and gets to the line a good amount. Nunn is without a doubt the best deep shooter, making 43% of his 3’s, while making just 33% of his 2’s.

3. How They Match Up. I think a lot will depend on Texas Tech’s ability to get open looks from deep and to hit those shots. Baylor isn’t good at guarding that area of the court and Texas Tech is 19th in the nation in 3-point makes. It will be interesting to see how Texas Tech responds after a terrific win against Houston. Baylor’s losses are largely because of defensive lapses, against Arizona, TCU, and BYU. And to be clear, their losses (other than Iowa State) were 11 points to Arizona, a 3-point loss to TCU, and and OT 4-point loss to BYU.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

No. 13 Texas Tech is riding a six-game winning streak after prevailing in an overtime thriller on the road two days ago and will now host Baylor at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at United Supermarkets Arena in the only regular-season matchup between the two programs this season. The 149th game in the all-time series will be broadcast on ESPN2 while the Texas Tech Sports Network radio call can be heard locally on Double T 97.3, and on the Varsity app.

“Winning home games in the Big 12 is always a necessity,” Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. “This is no different. We’re playing a really talented Baylor team who have great guard play, great inside play and really rebound the ball well. A well-coached team which is coming off a great win. Their comeback in the second half against Kansas was impressive. Looking forward to tomorrow night with a pretty wild student section.”
