Starting 5

1. Stats. Oklahoma State is not a good shooting team, just 299th in 2-point shooting and 201st in 3-point shooting. They also get a ton of shots blocked, 301st and are a high turnover team, 232nd. But they do make up for it a bit in other areas in that they are a very good offensive rebounding team, 64th and get to the line a ton, 17th in the nation. Defensively they are better, but teams are shooting really well, 342nd in 2-point shooting defense and 272nd in 3-point shooting. they shine in forcing teams to turn the ball over, 37th in the nation, and limiting offensive boards, 21st.

2. Scouting. I do not know why Avery is only getting 58% of available minutes, but he might be the best player. Good offensive rebounder and doesn’t turn the ball over, while not a terrible shooter. Ousmane is very good, 53% from the field and a terrific rebounder on both ends and very good shot blocker. After that it gets a bit dicey, Thompson, Keller and Newman are the guys shooting 3’s but don’t shoot particularly well. Jennings does a good job of rebounding and getting to the line, trying to introduce a 3-point shot, but results haven’t quite gotten there just yet.

3. How They Match Up. T-Rank is predicting a 20-point win, but that seems excessive. Texas Tech is a really good shooting team and that type of win wouldn’t surprise me, I am not expecting that. Oklahoma State’s defense stopping people have been the biggest issue and I don’t see how teams are shooting that well against them. I suppose we will find out soon enough. The fact that Texas Tech doesn’t get to the line very much doesn’t really matter against a team like OSU so one of their defensive pluses isn’t that big of a deal. We’ll see if Texas Tech can continue to crash the boards on the offensive glass.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

On a three-game winning streak and back in town for a two-game home stand, Texas Tech will host Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. on Sunday at United Supermarkets Arena in the first of two regular-season matchups between the programs. The 77th matchup in the all-time series will be broadcast on ESPN+ while the Texas Tech Sports Network radio call can be heard locally on Double T 97.3, and on the Varsity app.

Three straight wins has Texas Tech (14-4, 5-2 Big 12) at No. 10 in the NCAA NET and at No. 10 on the Kenpom rating coming into its home game against the Cowboys (10-8, 2-5 Big 12) who are 0-3 in conference road games. The Red Raiders are also at No. 25 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll and are just outside the AP Top 25, receiving the most votes of unranked teams in this week’s poll. “When we are playing competitively, getting after it and scrapping, we have one of the best offensive teams in the country,” Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. “What we weren’t was an elite defensive team. This team is starting to scratch the surface in being better in those areas.” The team extended a three-game winning streak by going on the road and earning an 81-71 win at Cincinnati on Tuesday night to improve to 4-0 in conference road games – the best start to a Big 12 road schedule in program history. Tech enters the game against the Cowboys (10-8, 2-5 Big 12) with a 9-2 home record and are 1-2 in Big 12 home games after taking a 70-54 win over Arizona last Saturday following home losses to UCF and No. 3 Iowa State.
