On the Diamond

Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent breaks down how the current roster looks in terms of transfers where 20 of the 45 players are transfers:

Fast forward now to the upcoming 2025 season and there definitely appears to be a change in the roster construction for the Red Raiders. Heading into the Spring semester, 20 of the 45 players listed on the roster will be players that have played college baseball at some level elsewhere. The roster will include 12 Junior College players (10 of which are new to the team this year) and eight new players that have played for another school at the DI level.

So what does all of that mean? Well, first it means there will be plenty of new faces on the diamond when Tim Tadlock’s team takes the field for the first time in February. Secondly, it means that Texas Tech should be a lot older and more experienced than it has been the past few seasons. Does that turn into more wins and success in the postseason? Only time will tell. However, with the way that College Baseball is trending with more veteran players, it should definitely give the Red Raiders a much better chance to compete against teams that are loaded with more experienced players. Mix that group of 18 newcomers in with an impressive incoming Freshman class and a good group of key returners and it looks like Texas Tech has a roster that should get them back to spending June in the postseason.

On the Court

I answered some questions from Arizona Desert Storm in anticipation of tomorrow’s game against Arizona. Go check it out!

On the Gridiron

On3’s Grant Grubbs reported that current Texas A&M and former Red Raider receiver Micah Hudson is temporarily stepping away from day-to-day football activities. I don’t exactly know what this means, but hope for the best for the young man.

Texas Tech football shared head coach Joey McGuire’s message to the team for 2025. I encourage you to read the whole thing:

I believe in this team. I know many are likely reading that sentence and thinking “well didn’t you say that last season? Or even the year before that?” I completely understand that point of view, but please know this about me: I believe in my players. It’s who I am and is engrained in my DNA.

I’m not blind to the fact that expectations continue to rise for this program. I feel the energy from this fan base from what we were able to do in December. I see it on social media. Believe me, I have those same expectations for myself and this program, and we are going to get there.

I don’t want to beat you down with legal stuff, but this could be a significant change in how this NIL collective money (which will then be transferred to athletic department by June) is supposed to be applied, over 90% was proposed to be distributed to football and men’s basketball, not split 50/50. We’ll see how this turns out.
