On the Court

Road to game day with the Lady Raiders. Remember that on Thursday they will be in the Virgin Islands for a holiday tournament.

TJ Toppin was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the Big 12. Congrats!

On the Gridiron

Cinematic recap of the Oklahoma State Game.

Texas Tech football released their game notes for the West Virginia report, which contained the Availability Report. At this point, I sort of just shrug and think, whoever is there is there and we’ll just see how it goes.

I did listen to the whole press conference and there’s lots of game stuff, but wanted to highlight some recruiting and transfer things. McGuire said that he expects to sign 16 high schoolers in the December signing period and that number could get to 18 (this signing date might be December 20th). McGuire said that the are still looking at a few national recruits in the next few weeks that could have National Signing Day implications.

McGuire said that there will be at least 10 transfers that will be incoming and that they will start having conversations with players on Monday about their status at Texas Tech. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 1 older running back.
  • Not looking at receiver, but are open to adding if a game changer.
  • 1 tight end.
  • 2 to 3 offensive linemen.
  • 2 to 3 defensive linemen or edge guys.
  • 2 cornerbacks (possibly).
  • 1 safety.
  • 1 kicker (possibly).

At the highest point, that’s more than 10 and my guess is that the running back, offensive line, and defensive lines are the biggest priorities. Also, December 4th is the day where every player in college football becomes a free agent. Just call that Chaos Day. Then there’s a day in April where you hope to sign players in the spring.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams on former Red Raider footballers Tim Winn and Rudy Renda, both players were seniors in Spike Dykes last year, and the players’ lounge area is named after Winn and Renda after a seven-figure donation. Definitely recommend this from Don, worth your time. I didn’t see the players’ lounge in the video below, but my guess is that we’ll see something soon.
