Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese wrote about how Peyton Parsons and Taylor Zdrojewski had to step up because of injuries to start the season:
Zdrojewski and Parsons entered the 2024 season with one combined goal in their respective collegiate careers. This season, they’re tied for the team lead with nine apiece, and it has Texas Tech right back at the John Walker Soccer Complex ready to host LSU in the NCAA Tournament at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Red Raiders earned the No. 8 seed in their quadrant, giving them one last game in front of the fans. During last year’s run to the Round of 16, Texas Tech got three matches in Lubbock, a memorable experience for returning players like Zdrojewski.
“Last year was unlike anything I can describe,” Zdrojewski said. “It was so exciting being a higher seed and being able to host all those games is really great for us as a team. … It was just such an exhilarating environment to be in. Those are the games you play for when you’re thinking back in August and in preseason. You want to be playing November soccer and to be able to do that in front of our home crowd just means so much more.”

On the Court (Basketball)
It seemed as if the writing was on the wall for a bit, but 2025 point guard Kingston Flemings chose Houston over Texas Tech for his college decision. Texas Tech has whiffed on a few of these this recruiting cycle (Jaden Toombs choosing SMU is the other one that’s top of mind) and a ton of attention had been paid to Flemings that will now need to go elsewhere. I am happy that I sort of left worrying about recruiting a while back, those things tend to work out regardless of my hand-wringing and there’s always a plan. I’d also add that with Christian Anderson in the fold, this isn’t as big of a concern as it could be.
