Congrats to Jacob Rodriguez for being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week!
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about why the Colorado game is so important:
Tech has announced sellouts in four of its first six home games and more than 57,000 tickets sold for two others. As for actual attendance, we’ll find out in early 2025 when schools annually report the more accurate number to the NCAA.
As long as Joey McGuire keeps stringing together winning seasons, there’s a fan base sufficient to sustain that. Take a step back in the win column, though, and games against the Cincinnatis and the UCFs aren’t going to pull folks in.
It’s a set of circumstances Tech’s not encountered in more than 60 years — in a conference a cut above what we’ve come to know as the group of five, but a tier below the two best football-playing conferences in America. There’s an easier path to play for a national championship and an easier chance to fall off the radar.
Red Raider Sports’ Justin Apodaca summarizes the McGuire presser and head coach Joey McGuire said that this game is incredibly important:
After getting a result in Ames after back-to-back crushing losses to end October, Texas Tech is back into the conversation atop the Big 12, but with Colorado ahead of them in the standings, Tech has a massive opportunity on Saturday against a very strong team.
“We said it at the start of the year, it’s really important for us to play meaningful games in November. We we took a step back and didn’t think that we’d we would be able to do that after back to back losses, and we turned around and won a great game, great team win on Saturday, and it put us right back in the mix,” McGuire said. “So got an opportunity. We’ve got to make the most of it.”
