10 Things: TCU 35, Texas Tech 34

Sorry, but no traditional 10 Things today. Fitsum and Kaufman High School had the area band competition, which I’ve never participated in and let me tell you that it’s an event. An initial competition at 1:30 pm by all bands to whittle things down to the top 10. The top 10 then do their performance again, with the awards ceremony starting at 10:30 pm, and this resulted me not getting to sleep up until 1:00 am (this was after starting my day with 12 miles running this morning). I won’t have time to watch to get down any thoughts today because Youssouf has tryouts for his club basketball team this afternoon, add in church this morning, add in a family brunch to celebrate some October birthdays and my day will evaporate before I know it. I doubt that I’ll get the pre-preview up and ready for tomorrow. Consider this your place to vent and to add on to my list.

Recap
Stats

1. I know that Texas Tech blew a 17-point lead.
2. I know that Behren Morton has hurt his non-throwing shoulder or collar bone and that probably doesn’t bode well going into Ames next week.
3. I know that Will Hammond looked good, but only good enough to lead the offense to 3 points in the 4th quarter.
4. I know that Joey McGuire should have tried to score a touchdown rather than kick a field goal in the 4th quarter because it was already a 2-score and there was too much time on the clock to not go for it on the 6 yard line, but to make it a 3-score lead would have been really tough for TCU to overcome.
5. I know that Reese Burkhard thought this was about him rather than the team, that there are times and places for statements and when you win, maybe it just gets washed away in the victory, but in a loss, it looks pretty selfish.
6. I know that the ball should have been handed off to Tahj Brooks rather than let Hammond run the ball on a critical down when you’re trying to win the game.
7. I know that the defense gave up huge plays (again) that can be blamed for the loss as much or more than the offense and special teams.
8. I know that Gino Garcia probably should have attempted the 50-yarder rather than Burkhardt because Burkhardt has never made any, but Garcia has made a couple.
9. I know that when we complain about reporters “not asking the tough questions” but we’ve reached a point where fans want answers that they’ll never be happy with the response and even if McGuire would have been asked those questions (because his answer / excuse / reason isn’t going to be the right answer no matter how hard he tries).
10. I know that this isn’t good enough and basketball starts in 9 days.
