2. After a Game Like That. The last thing that you want me to do is to tell you about third downs or why this happened and this turnover was bad so I’m going to try to cobble something together that’s interesting and it mostly centers around Joey McGuire in his post-game presser and quotes. Things that are in quotes “” are actual quotes and everything is else is a non-transcript.

3. Frustrating. “Today was extremely frustrating. Most people in this room understand how much I appreciate this University. And how much I love Texas Tech, and how much I love our fan base. It’s disappointing to come out, off a bye, where we had a lot of momentum, and to come out and get beat at home like that. You don’t want to lose any game, but, man, I take a lot of pride in the way we play at home, and we played really badly tonight.”

4. Bad Special Teams. Frustrating the first half how bad we played on special teams, gave up 10 points on 6 yards. Bad punts that gave them good field position.

5. Baylor Running the Ball. In the second half, especially early, they ran the ball on us late, early we’ve played good football teams. Anxious to see the film, they really ran the ball on us. Me being a defensive guy, I hate when they are able to run the football.

6. The Film is the Mirror. We spent the last 4 weeks learning off of wins and celebrating wins, we have 24 hours to feel sorry for ourselves. The film is the mirror and we have to learn from this. I know the character in the locker room and how hard they will try to bounce back. Everything is in front of us on the goals we want to reach. I hate it for us, the players and the fanbase.

7. Details. The guys in there played a lot of football, we loose Dooda early in the game. We probably didn’t move enough and that’s on me more than TD with the reps we had and how we practiced This week the whole week has been talked about the details of the games and the details of the game and we should have at worst been down 3 points at halftime, we had everything matched up, linebacker has the running back and instead of taking the running back he adds on and he has to add on through the running back and he doesn’t, they check the ball down, and instead of being down 3 at half we’re down 10. We still felt good, we went down and scored, and the floodgates opened.

8. Special Teams. It’s frustrating. We shanked one out of bounds, and the punt return was a line drive and the coverage wasn’t anywhere it needs to be. Their return game was something we knew we had to do a good job, we outkicked our coverage and we don’t field the squib and they get the ball back. You’re looking at 10 points and we haven’t even been on the field.

9. Not Physical. We talked earlier in the week, of running some of our same pressures, but we haven’t been running them the last 3 weeks, we were playing good defenses, so we were more stagnant, one thing they did was in 11 personnel, but giving up 10 personnel looks, they had 2 touchdowns on a bubble and spin it out there and missed a tackle, missed one in the south end zone, they brought the tight end out and never related to him, that’s the details and defensively put yourself in a bad position numbers wise. It’s about details.

It’s really interesting in that we weren’t physical today, we weren’t finishing runs or blocks or big hits or running. I think they had a good game plan to create space, we haven’t had to defend as much. Before the game I asked the guys to take a deep breath, there was a lot of energy, weird energy, maybe too excited and too hyped and playing out of position. it’s 59-35, Kirby and I were talking, I’m not going to wave a white flag. So if we play it different, maybe we get beat and it’s not by a wide margin. A lot of that we are giving the ball back and giving short fields, I don’t want them to say that McGuire gave up. Any loss is ugly.

I think it was a lack of execution that didn’t keep the energy up. When we stopped them and scored, but we give up a touchdown back to that, we talk about playing each other, and then the lead stretches to 17, it’s an interesting comment, I didn’t feel like we didn’t have the energy, but we weren’t physical tonight. I asked Tim on the headset, I asked what was hitting on running the ball. In the 3rd quarter we don’t execute.

It’s our worst home loss, to me, this felt a lot like Texas last year. Played horrible on special teams. It’s a fight and then we give up a touchdown on a kickoff return. They played a good game, they haven’t put 4 quarters together, but they did tonight.

JC Miller on Defense & Dooda Bank’s Injury. JC Miller he started a bit last spring, played a bit of reps in camp, we did hit the quarterback in Arizona and we repped him in the bye week and in a package there, he put some pressure on the quarterback. I think he’s fixing to get home and gets hands to the face. He’s got a chance to help us on the edge and need to keep working him against the run.

I hate it for Dooda Banks, we are waiting to hear. I don’t think it is an ACL, I don’t know what it is, I don’t see him playing next week or a couple of weeks. Maybe longer.
