Good morning. Just to give you all a heads-up, I’ll probably take the day off tomorrow as I get ready for the posts for the next week. Today is an action-packed Morning Stake with lots of links and news.
On the Court (Volleyball)

On the Court (Basketball
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese writes about if Texas Tech basketball is capable of winning the Big 12.
Onthe Gridiron
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams writes about how the adidas contract with Texas Tech still hasn’t been finalized:
The long-form document between the two parties had not been signed and executed as of Thursday, but Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt said earlier this week “it’s getting very close.”
“It’s just legal counsel,” Hocutt said. “Attorneys get involved. There’s tweaks adjusted on language, on various stipulations. There is nothing to be concerned about.”
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams with midseason MVP’s and thoughts. Here are two of his biggest concerns:
The schedule: The hardest part lies ahead. Under Joey McGuire, the Red Raiders are 4-9 in the other team’s stadium, and McGuire this offseason pointed to trips in the second half to TCU, Iowa State and Oklahoma State as telltale games.
The passing-game matchups: Texas Tech sits third from the bottom in the FBS in passing yards allowed, yielding 308 per game. That’s problematic with TCU, Iowa State, Colorado and Oklahoma State all boasting top passers and-or receivers. Exacerbating the issue: Injuries sidelined cornerback Bralyn Lux for three games and safety Chapman Lewis for most of the last two.
Uniwatch took a look at the new uniforms and if you wanted an outsider’s perspective, I think the idea is that they are good, but need to see them on the field:
It’s definitely different, but that’s not always a good thing. But as far as the layout/design, so long as everything is discernable, I like the look — cap stripes and pants stripes almost always make a uniform look better. I hope the players wear high red socks, as those will provide a nice contrast to the dark gray that is the rest of the kit.
I’m actually looking forward to seeing these under the lights at Jerry World on November 9th. But only then will we be able to truly tell if the uniform looks as good on the field as it does in the still shots and video.
