Not going to lie, a bit wiped out from yesterday and running very late, so just a few links.
On the Diamond
Texas Tech baseball are getting in some fall practices and if you want some insight, these are great and written by Jamie Lent: first scrimmage; second scrimmage; third scrimmage; and fifth scrimmage. Lent also write a roster breakdown that’s good
On the Court
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese writes about Texas Tech’s initial basketball practice and Grant McCasland’s focus on defense:
Williams — while trying to avoid McMillian causing a ruckus during his interview session — said the biggest thing this year’s Texas Tech team needs to improve is its defense, especially at the beginning of the year.
“I think towards the end we got better,” Williams said. “Injuries kind of held us back a little, but I think just coaches have put a big emphasis on defense this summer and moving into official practice now.”
The Red Raiders also added a new player to the roster this week in the form of Corbin Green from Air Force. McCasland said Green showed up to campus and, along with his mom, met with the coach hoping to find a place to continue his basketball career.

On the Gridiron
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese had 4 takeaways from after Texas Tech’s win over Cincinnati:
Run defense remains solid for Texas Tech
Cincinnati’s leading rusher Corey Kiner got three carries for nine yards on his team’s first drive but did not return for the rest of the game. At intermission, the Bearcats managed just 46 total rushing yards on 17 attempts, an average of 2.7 yards per carry.
This falls in line with Tech’s ability to shut down opposing running backs. Quarterback Brendan Sorsby had 22 of those carries while Cincinnati running backs were held to 2 yards per tote in the first half.
Dallas Morning News’ Justin Apodaca write about head coach Joey McGuire on winning games:
“So this morning in our staff meeting, I pulled up the last three years of our plan to win, and so the games that we’ve won, Iowa State, Kansas and Baylor,” McGuire said. “I’m gonna be captain obvious, but we’re winning the plan to win, and we’re winning it decisively…I mean, good football has to travel. And the losses that we’ve had, and every one of them, we’ve either not won a single one of the plan to win, or we’ve been one of seven in the plan to win. And so we gotta go back and really focus on ‘Don’t beat ourselves.’”
