Yesterday when Texas Tech and Patrick Mahomes announced the inaugural adidas Team Mahomes NIL class all I could think about was how proud of a moment this is for me, how happy this made me and if I felt this way, I can’t imagine how this made Mahomes feel. To go from a quarterback from East Texas who wasn’t even sure if he’d play football in college, to being the best football player on the planet and then creating and giving to have his very own collective after having given $5 million along with his wife, Brittany.

And when I told my wife that Mahomes had created this collective and I started to rattle off the players and the sport they were involved with, she was proud for him and said as much. Good for Mahomes for not just focusing on football, but pulling other sports and people into his circle to give them opportunities.
So I’m on Cloud Mahomes right now, so high and floating on the ether.
You’ll want to watch this 👀💪@PatrickMahomes‘ legacy only continues to grow here as he introduces the inaugural Team Mahomes class @adidas.#WreckEm | #TeamMahomes pic.twitter.com/gEgRbRkEhU

And what does this mean for the future? I can only imagine, because I couldn’t imagine this happening, but it takes someone willing to give, both of himself and his wealth, to do something like this and that is a very rare trait (because I see people hold onto their time and wealth until their dying breaths) and Texas Tech is very lucky to have someone like Mahomes as part of the family.
If I had to give real thoughts about what this will mean, yes, this feels like something bigger than just adidas being a sponsor of shoes and athletic gear and that the vision is for Texas Tech to be the adidas version of Oregon and Nike. That’s obviously speculative, but all of this feels like it is gearing in a direction
Enough of my thoughts, onto the details.
adidas and Patrick Mahomes announced the signing of six student-athletes to be part of the inaugural Team Mahomes NIL program, those six individuals are:
– Micah Hudson (football)
– NiJaree Canady (softball)
– Jasmine Shavers (basketball)
– Matthew Comegys (golf)
– Sam Courtwright (soccer)
– TJ Pompey (baseball)
“The energy around this partnership has been incredible, and this announcement shows just how important this is to me, adidas and Texas Tech,” said Patrick Mahomes. “adidas has been a collaborative partner from the start, and we worked together to select athletes who are among the best and embody the drive and dedication we’re looking for in a Team Mahomes athlete. We’ve got a lot of great stuff coming up for the Red Raiders – stay tuned for more.”
