Wanted to update you all on the schedule this week. I’m leaving to go out of town this week on Wednesday for a tournament for Youssouf and will be back on Monday. I still plan on posting some things and have the basketball snapshots that will post. I have started not bringing my computer on trips, just an ipad and that’s definitely not as efficient. I still like to work on new stories and plan to write some this week to get ready for football as August camp is just around the corner.

On the Gridiron
Byron Hanspard narrating this video is special and I absolutely love it when former players are involved with the current program. Tahj Brooks wants Hanspard’s career rushing record and this is a good year to chase it.
30 years since @HanspardSr stepped on campus…
It’s
for a challenger to his career rushing record.

Red Raider Sports’ Ben Golan has 5 underclassmen that could breakout this fall and here’s safety Chapman Lewis, you’ll need to go visit to read the other 4:
Lewis played 140 defensive and 68 special teams snaps as a true freshman in 2023. That experience will pay off as Lewis is one of the favorites to start at free safety this season along with the aforementioned Sanford. Lewis, despite only weighing 180 pounds, is known for bringing the boom in the secondary. Look for defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter to put Lewis in positions to make his impact be felt.
Athlon Sports projects the Big 12 bowl games and thinks that Texas Tech will face Minnesota in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, which is in Phoenix.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese ranks the top 5 defenders and here’s the 3rd one:
C.J. Baskerville, boundary defensive back
It was a good first season in a Red Raider uniform for Baskerville, who began the year at the STAR position before moving to deep safety later in the season. Baskerville was second on the team in tackles with 78, including 4.5 for a loss of yardage. He also came up with a pair of interceptions and was credited with five pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.
