How soon will a heralded freshmen class make an impact?

It’s no surprise that Joey McGuire, a longtime Texas high school coach, is winning on the recruiting trail.

Texas Tech had the No. 1 2024 recruiting class in the Big 12, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

The class, ranked 26th nationally, was headlined by five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson. Hudson, from Temple, Texas, became the highest-ranked signee in Texas Tech history.

Texas Tech’s 2024 class also included four-star quarterback Will Hammond and four-star tackle Ellis Davis.

Desert News’ Brandon Judd: What is the toughest stretch for each Big 12 football team this season?

Texas Tech’s Toughest stretch

Oct. 5 — at Arizona
Oct. 19 — vs. Baylor
Oct. 26 — at TCU
Nov. 2 — at Iowa State
After hosting Arizona State and Cincinnati to start league play, the Red Raiders hit a crucial stretch over the next month.

Three of these games will be on the road, and if the Red Raiders find some success away from Lubbock, they’ll be a factor in the conference, though getting a victory over the Wildcats, Horned Frogs or Cyclones won’t be easy.

Baylor is coming off a 3-9 season that has Dave Aranda on the hot seat, lending a chance for Texas Tech to build some momentum.
