Texas Tech Football: adidas Football Uniform Reveal

Yesterday was a big day for the football program. The uniforms dropped and by this point, you’ve seen them and I don’t know how much I can really add that you don’t already know. I did note that the stripes on the shoulder have the outline around 3 sides, the front, top and bottom, but not in the back.

What do I think about them? They look like football uniforms and if I were to design uniforms, this is exactly what I would do. They look like proper uniforms, large numbers, stripes, and no unnecessary yoke around the neck like UA and no weird shapes or panels on the legs, also like UA. The UA font that everybody associated with Texas Tech is gone and it’s just your standard block lettering.

The stripes on the helmet are perfect and I love them. It looks awfully similar to the stripes that I’ve utilized on the blog since basically starting Staking The Plains and I feel like a visionary or Nostradamus in the sense that stripes on the helmet are something that breaks up the helmet a bit and absolutely ties the jersey and the uniform together as a whole.

The football uniforms will carry Patrick Mahomes’ gladiator logo and Associate AD Robert Giovannetti talked a bit about how it would be integrated, largely that there will be a gladiator uniform for football (eventually) and for baseball.

I’ve heard that there will not be red helmets, at least not initially and listening to Gio, Patrick Mahomes will be involved in uniforms for football at some point and I’m absolutely 100% fine with this. It doesn’t even matter what they look like, whatever Patrick Mahomes wants to do I’m cool with and you will be too.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese was at the Giovannetti presser with a bit more:

Speaking from the concourse at Jones AT&T Stadium on Monday, senior associate athletics director Robert Giovannetti said Mahomes’ role in the deal was multi-faceted. Not only did Texas Tech football’s most famous alum push for the deal, it’ll be his logo the Red Raiders sport on their new uniforms.

“He always invites Kirby to his summer golf tournament,” Giovannetti said, “and Patrick was just talking to him about, hey, we need to get adidas and Texas Tech together. He talked about his new brand, his gladiator brand, and so that kind of kicked things off.”

Mahomes, Giovannetti said, also wanted to introduce his new logo — shaped like the helmet of a gladiator with his initials — to the college level and yearned for Texas Tech to be the first to incorporate it.

McGuire’s thoughts about how he wanted the uniforms simpler is exactly what they needed. There was unnecessary elements to the UA uniforms.

This video was special.

And the football uniforms video reveal was really good too.
