+ Texas Tech announced 3 new members to the Ring of Honor:
– Linebacker Thomas Howard
– Tight end Andre Tillman
– Receiver and returner Wes Welker
Congrats to all three gentlemen!
I’d like to add something about Howard and Tillman, but I’m not old enough to appreciate what they accomplished. Both were first team All-Americans and are in the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame as well as the Texas Tech Hall of Fame. Welker is old enough or young enough to have lots of people remember what he did at Texas Tech and in the NFL as well as to have highlights showing how special he was. Also, watch the second video if you watch anything, which is Kirby Hocutt and Will Culpepper break the news to Welker about his induction. I think this is also a good opportunity to introduce Culpepper, who is in charge of the Varsity Club and took over for Rodney Allison. Culpepper walked on and played for Spike Dykes for 3 years and his final year for Mike Leach and he seems like a really good person.
I’ve also seen some chatter about Graham Harrell and how he needs to be inducted and I’m sure his time is coming, but it feels right to get older guys in. Of course, Michael Crabtree and Patrick Mahomes are outliers, but generally speaking this has been an older group: Donny Anderson (2012), E.J. Holub (2012), Dave Parks (2012), Gabe Rivera (2014), Zach Thomas (2016), Michael Crabtree (2021), Elmer Tarbox (2021) and Patrick Mahomes II (2022).
+ Texas Tech had 2 decommits yesterday, Amarillo Tascosa athlete TJ Tillman and Bastrop defensive back Ramonz Adams. I don’t have any details other than that. It also appeared that Texas Tech received a commitment, but as of right now, nothing that I’ve seen online.
