On the Court
Kind of a barbershop vibe, Darrion Williams, Chance McMillian and Kevin Overton sat down to just talk about stuff, getting to know Overton.
It’s all about our players 🔥

Texas Tech official has a Q&A with center Federiko Federiko:
Is there a moment when you were young that you think changed the trajectory you were on to get to this level of college basketball?
“I remember starting to play at a really early age but then when I was like 15 I was taller than most and started getting good.”
What have you learned about yourself through playing basketball?
“I’ve learned a lot about myself and other people through basketball. It’s taken me a lot of places and countries. I’ve grown through the game. I’m confident in myself to be able to adapt in any situation.”

On the Gridiron
Lubbock Avalanche Journal’s Don Williams writes about Kason Long and his spring move to defensive tackle and that the staff think of Long as Jackson Richards:
McGuire found out he wasn’t the first to see the similarities when he shared his observation with offensive staffers Clay McGuire and Kenny Perry.
“I said, ‘That’s who Kasen Long is going to (be),’ ” McGuire said. “One of the two started laughing and said, ‘We were just talking about that. We actually in the offensive staff room compared him to Jackson.’
“And so we’re going to keep him at defensive end. Both ways, he’s still a year away from playing, just from maturity and gaining weight.”
CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah looks at the Big 12 transfers and Jalin Conyers gets a mention here, but if you are intent on keeping track of the Big 12 and knowing who players are, then I do recommend articles like this to know the players in the Big 12:
The Red Raiders return tight end Mason Tharp, but the Arizona State transfer Conyers provides a different skill set. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound behemoth posted nearly 800 yards and five touchdowns over the past two seasons. He figures to earn plenty of snaps in 2024.
What makes Conyers special is his versatility. Think of him as the ultimate safety net for quarterback Behren Morton. In addition to making big catches, Conyers’ frame allows him to play a crucial role in protecting the quarterback and run blocking. Texas Tech offensive coordinator Zach Kittley is one of the more creative minds in the conference, and Conyers fits right in to his scheme. Conyers ranked as the No. 5 tight end in the transfer portal.
ESPN’s David Hale organizes college football quarterbacks into tiers and has Behren Morton in the 12th tier:
Morton vs. Texas: 52.8% completions, 2.4 yards per pass, 0 touchdowns and 3 picks. Morton in seven other starts: 68.6% completions, 6.95 yards per pass, 12 TD and 4 picks (and a 6-1 record)
If you are curious, Tyler Shough, now at Louisville, is in Tier 10. Other Big 12 quarterbacks with back-ups in the parenthetical:
+ Tier 2: Arizona’s Noah Fifita, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Kansas’s Jalon Daniels, and Utah’s Cam Rising (Sam Huard)
+ Tier 4: Kansas State’s Avery Johnson
+ Tier 5a: Oklahoma State’s Alan Bowman
+ Tier 6: Iowa State’s Rocco Becht (J.J. Kohl), TCU’s Josh Hoover (Ken Seals, Hauss Hejny), West Virginia’s Garrett Greene (Nicco Marchiol)
+ Tier 10: UCF’s KJ Jefferson (Jacurri Brown)
+ Tier 11a: Baylor’s Dequann Finn, Sawyer Robertson, RJ Robertson
+ Tier 12: Behren Morton
+ Tier 13: Houston’s Donovan Smith
+ tier 14: Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby (Bracy Lichtenberg)
+ Tier 15: Arizona State’s Jeff Sims (Trenton Bourguet, Sam Leavitt), BYU’s Gerry Bohanan (Jake Retzlaff)
How do you feel about 7 or 8 wins?
TEXAS TECH plays the 3rd-easiest collection of opposing FBS DEFs in all of P4 – facing just two in the Top-45 (at ISU & at OKST)
Many people pegged the Red Raiders as a dark horse in 2023, but with the 9th-easiest P4 schedule, perhaps 2024 could be a special year in Lubbock pic.twitter.com/CXevs4f4Oe
