Two days in a row. I can’t keep up. Texas Tech received the 2nd commit of portal transfer szn as Pittsburgh big man Federiko Federiko (6-11/225) committed to Grant McCasland and the Gang. Federiko will be a junior, having played two seasons at Pitt. His freshman campaign he averaged 6.6 points a game, grabbed 5.3 rebounds and averaged 1.7 blocks a game in just 23 minutes. Last year it was 4.7 points, 5.2 boards, 1.3 blocks in just 21 minutes.

Federiko had a nice BPM for the year at +2.5, is a high-end field goal shooter and offensive rebounder. He doesn’t turn the ball over and does get to the line at a good rate, 62%. And of course, he’s also an elite shot-blocker. The bad news is that he does get to the line a lot but only shoots 41%. Yep, not a typo. He shoots 64% from the field and almost all of his buckets last year were near the rim.

In terms of team building, this is definitely what the team needed, and I wouldn’t mind a second true big that Federiko can be paired with. I am guessing that Federiko didn’t see a lot of late-game situations because of the free throw issues. And last year when Warren Washington went down, there was no rim protector.

According to Federiko’s Pitt profile, he was born in Egypt, raised in Helsinki, Finland, and then moved to Pennsylvania his senior year of high school. Originally committed to West Virginia and then committed to Pitt.
