On the Diamond
Baseball hits the road to Abilene to take on Abilene Christian to be the first of a 6-game road trip with TCU and then Arkansas to follow. The Razorbacks are the No. 1 team in the nation, so should be fun.
On the Court
News broke over the weekend that John Calipari would leave Kentucky and take the head coaching spot at Arkansas. Strange to think that a lot of this happened because Andy Enfield left USC to go to SMU, then Eric Musselman left Arkansas to go to USC, and here we are. The reason all of this is mentioned here is because Scott Drew is one of the leading candidates to replace Calipari at Kentucky and if that were to happen you wonder if Grant McCasland would leave Texas Tech to go to Baylor. I don’t think that he would leave after just one year, but this is also a unique circumstance and I think that there is a draw for McCasland at Baylor. We’ll see and I also think that Drew will likely stay at Baylor. He’s well compensated and the bluegrass isn’t always greener.
On the Gridiron
ESPN’s Craig Haubert has the top 25 classes of the 2025 class and Texas Tech is sitting at No. 12:
Joey McGuire elevated the Red Raiders’ recruiting upon his arrival in Lubbock. He’s looking to build on the momentum of a top-25 class in 2024 that featured five-star receiver Micah Hudson. Texas Tech landed another talented in-state receiver in Gentry. He has excellent burst, good quickness and makes plays after the catch. Preztynn Harrison is listed at tight end but the multisport athlete is a hybrid-type target with outstanding length and good ball skills.
Texas Tech has done a good job with early evaluations and might have landed a defensive steal in linebacker Golwas. He’s a thickly built player with versatility, having played multiple positions in high school including wildcat quarterback. He has good body control and excellent range and has been recorded running over 21 mph in game play.
Other Big 12 teams are Baylor at 11, UCF at 18, and TCU at 24.
Don Williams X/Twitter has a bunch of short videos from practice. Here’s just one of them, but he has Brady Boyd, Tyson Turner, T.J. West, Jordan Brown, Josh Kelly, Johncarlos Miller, Josh Llewellyn, etc.
Texas Tech WR Josh Kelly (18) arrived in January after four years at Fresno State and one at Washington State. He put up career receiving highs of 61-923-8 last year for Wazzu. pic.twitter.com/75f1TXr1rI
