Texas Tech came away with another sweep this weekend over Gardner-Webb. A 10-7 win on Friday night; a 29-3 win on Saturday; and a 9-5 win on Sunday. They will be on the road on Tuesday at New Mexico, and then host Texas for a weekend series. I hope to have a series thread up for the Texas series (fingers crossed). Here are highlights over the last game over Gardner-Webb.
Four games for the softball team at home for the first time: a 8-0 win over Merrimack College; a 3-2 loss to UTEP; a 18-2 win over Merrimack again; 10-0 win over New Mexico State; and a 9-1 win over New Mexico State on Sunday. They’ll start a conference series in Utah against BYU.
Lady Raider Basketball
The Lady Raiders were blown out by Kansas State, 73-49 on Saturday, K-State is very good and the Lady Raiders are in a bad spot with injuries and everything else. They’ll be the 12th seed in the Big 12 Tournament that will battle Houston, the 13th seed, on Thursday, March 7th at 5:30 p.m. televised on ESPN+.
Texas Tech Football
The new Double-T scoreboard was installed over the weekend and it looks great.
The staff competed in practice with their high schools represented on Friday.
This is 3 weeks old, but that’s fine. ESPN’s Craig Haubert ($) with the final 2024 recruiting rankings and according to ESPN, Texas Tech finished with the 24th best class:
Top offensive commit: WR Micah Hudson (No. 22)
Top defensive commit: DE Cheta Ofili (No. 214)
Coach Joey McGuire continues to elevate the Red Raiders on the recruiting trail and is focusing on in-state talent. They have found success offensively with several talented playmakers, led by five-star WR Micah Hudson. The Red Raiders’ highest-ranked commit in the ESPN 300 era, Hudson has the tools to be a big play weapon not seen in Lubbock since Michael Crabtree. A target with the speed to be a vertical threat, he also has strong hands and tremendous leaping ability to win contested matchups. Another key offensive addition is QB Will Hammond, who displays savvy and good touch and brings skills to develop at the position. He is looking to be a potential steal for the Red Raiders after creating a positive buzz with his performance at this summer’s Elite 11 finals. High three-star WRs Tyson Turner, Lorenzo Johnson and Chandlin Myers are all strong in-state additions who could develop into productive targets in their passing attack. While the strength of this class is on the offensive side of the ball they did add some promising pieces to build off on defense, like Cheta Ofili, an explosive and lengthy edge defender who brings promising upside.
