Starting 5
1. Stats. Texas is very good offensively, a good 3-point shooting team, 38th in the nation, and 98th in 2-point shooting, so top their top traits, other than making free throws, 87th in the nation, and offensive rebounding, 106th in the nation. Not so great things, 205th in turnover percentage, and 239th in having shots blocked, which may not be as big a deal against a small Texas Tech lineup. On the defensive end, they do a lot of things really well, 59th in holding opponents at 2-point shots, 51st in opponent free throw percentage, 76th in turnover percentage, and 48th in shot blocking. The couple of things that they don’t do well on the defensive end is opponent offensive rebounding, 232nd and guarding the 3-point line, 208th.
2. Scouting. Disu is fantastic and the player of the year for Texas despite having Abmas and Hunter on the team. He does it all, rebounding, low turnovers, high block percentage and steal percentage, plus he makes 55% of his 3-point shots. Just an all-around good player that will probably play at the next level. Abmas is a volume shooter, making 37% of his 3-point shots and is a high assist guy, but doesn’t do much else other than score. Mitchell is another high rebound guy and shoots well inside the arc, 60% overall. Hunter may be a disappointment overall, but he can explode at any given night.
3. How They Match Up. In the video below, McCasland is coy about whether or not McMillian or Warren Washington can play, coy not in a bad way, he just sounds unsure. Washington didn’t look like himself on Saturday and couldn’t compete and McMillian didn’t play at all. I don’t see Texas Tech winning this game unless either Toussaint or Isaacs snap out of their funk. Without a scoring punch, it’s just a big ask. Texas is vulnerable in that shots can be had beyond the arc, but Toussaint, Isaacs, and Walton will have to play heavy minutes to get the spacing they want.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:
Texas Tech comes into the last scheduled game of the series with a 14-1 record at home this season and will be looking to sweep its regular-season series against Texas for the fourth time in six seasons when it hosts the Longhorns at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at United Supermarkets Arena. The Red Raiders (19-8, 8-6 Big 12) earned a 78-67 win over the Longhorns (17-10, 6-8 Big 12) in the first meeting on January 6 with Pop Isaacs going off for 21 points and Joe Toussaint adding 15 points and six assists in Austin. In Lubbock, Texas Tech has won three straight over the Longhorns and 8-of-10 games dating back to 2014.
“I’m excited about tomorrow night, really thrilled to be back in the USA,” Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. “Our students are camping out. What a great time to be in Lubbock and at Texas Tech. There’s a different edge to playing Texas, especially with them going to the SEC and you don’t know when you’ll get another opportunity to play again. I do think there is a deep sense of appreciation for the rivalry and the opportunity to compete.”
