Starting 5

1. Stats. That Baylor offense is cooking and that is not the recipe for success for this Texas Tech team. Baylor is a terrific offensive rebounding team (another bad sign) and get to the line a decent amount of time. What they are best at, and I mean the best? Best in the nation in 3-point shooting at 41.8%. the other numbers are okay, but you don’t need to be great at the other things when you are so good at shooting the rock. Defensively, they are top third in the nation, a lot like Texas Tech. Baylor is 105th in forcing turnovers, 181st in allowing offensive boards, 203rd in guarding 2-point shots, and 125th in guarding 3-point shots.

2. Scouting. True freshman Walter is a star, a terrific player, low turnover rate, and not a great shooter, but he’s got a terrific BPM. Bridges, Dennis, Love, and Nunn are all shooting above 40% from deep and Walter is shooting 36%. The guys to watch that will hit the offensive glass are Missi, Ojianwuna and Lohner. All of the players who play have low turnover percentages other than Dennis, who has a tendency to turn the ball over a bit much.

3. How They Match Up. Texas Tech is one of the worst teams at guarding the 3-point shot, 27th in the nation and I’ve already mentioned that Baylor is the best shooting team. And Texas Tech is 263rd in the nation in allowing opposing offensive boards so this game could get ugly very quickly. Texas Tech will need to tighten something up on defense and hitting on all cylinders on offense. This is going to be a difficult game to get back on track, which makes the Cincy loss hurt that much more.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

The No. 23 Red Raiders (16-5, 5-3 Big 12) are looking to snap their only losing streak of the season when they take on No. 13 Baylor (16-5, 5-3 Big 12) at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Foster Pavilion in Waco. Both teams enter this week with the same overall records and are among five teams atop the Big 12 standings with only three conference losses.

Tech is coming off a pair of losses against TCU and Cincinnati last week, while the Bears bounced back from three straight losses with wins over UCF and Iowa State last week. Baylor is currently 3-1 at Foster Pavilion and 11-1 overall in home games. Tech will be playing in the new arena for the first time and comes into the game with an 82-64 overall advantage in the historic series that was first played in 1937. Baylor is 39-30 against Tech in games played in Waco and has won 7 of the last 10, including sweeping the series last season after the Red Raiders swept the regular-season series with two wins in 2022. A return trip to Lubbock will take place for the two teams on March 9 for the regular-season finale.
