Texas Tech has maybe found a long-term answer at punter with Kaden Turner committing yesterday and signing with Texas Tech in the very near future as part of the 2024 class. Jack Burgess, the transfer, will likely be the punter for 2024 and 2025, but it’s good to have a freshman on board as well.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself in thinking that Texas Tech already has their 2025 quarterback. Galveston Daily Herald’s James Lacombe profiles Texas Tech commit, Hitchcock quarterback Lloyd Jones, III:

Since a young age, Jones, a 6-foot-4 junior, has been part of a once-in-a-generation group of athletes currently walking the halls of Hitchcock High School, but this past season, he emerged as a leader and as a reliable, dynamic weapon for the Bulldogs football team.

Closing in on multiple program career passing records, Jones finished the 2023 season with 2,735 yards passing, 36 passing touchdowns and just five interceptions in 11 games played — already impressive numbers even before factoring in his mobility, which saw him tally 655 rushing yards and 13 TDs on the ground.

“I matured more, I used my legs way better, and was just way more comfortable,” Jones said.

After helping the Bulldogs repeat as state 7on7 champions over the summer, Jones led a Hitchcock team that had a solid season, finishing at 9-2 overall. And, next season, Jones has his sights set on leading his team to a state title.

“I know we can do it, we’ve just got to do it,” Jones said.

On Friday, USA Basketball announced that Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland would join the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team with head coach Tommy Lloyd from Arizona and Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry will be the other assistant along with McCasland.

“I can’t imagine getting to work with better coaches than Tommy Lloyd and Micah Shrewsberry,” McCasland said. “Both are amazing basketball minds and great leaders that genuinely care about people.”

From a recruiting and player connection standpoint this could pay huge dividends and I think can only lead to good things.

If you are keeping track, the Lady Raiders pretty well collapsed in the 4th quarter against Cincinnati on the road on Saturday. They will stay on the road, heading to Morgantown on Tuesday to take on West Virginia at 6:00 p.m. The men will be in Waco to take on No. 18 Baylor, tip-off at 8:00 p.m. and the game on ESPN. That’s gonna be past my bedtime. A quick aside, Texas Tech will host UCF on Saturday, then hit the road immediately to take on No. 8 Kansas at home on Monday the 12th, then hit the road on Saturday the 17th at Hilton Coliseum to take on No. 12 Iowa State. Should be fun.

If you’d like an update on the new south end zone you are in luck!
