Starting 5
1. Stats. San Jose State has played one okay team, UC Irvine, and a team called Bethesda. Thus far, SJSU is getting to the line, 64th in the nation and is 33rd in the nation in free throw percentage. Defensively, the Spartans aren’t allowing many offensive boards and are 19th in the nation in limiting three-point percentage.
2. Scouting. It’s early and difficult to discern, but Anderson is the best shooting player, good offensive rebounder, doesn’t turn the ball over and effective at stealing the ball. Gorener is the leading scorer and a good shooter. This isn’t a team that shoots a ton of 3’s except for Humer who has jacked up 7 three-point shots.
3. How They Match Up. It’s early, but Texas Tech’s defense is showing up. I mentioned last week that TAMU-Commerce was a terrible team, they were, and they had trouble shooting the ball so it’s partly the defense doing good things, but also the opponent. Offensively, Texas Tech got to the line a ton and made their free throws. That was the offense. The Red Raiders are 258th in turnover percentage on offense. That’s dog doo.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:
Sundays are for… college basketball? In this case, yes. Texas Tech is set to play the second game of a three-game homestand to begin the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday against San Jose State at United Supermarkets Arena. It’s the only Sunday game on the schedule this season and comes against a Spartan team that is averaging 94.5 points per game through two games.
“They have a great offensive team,” Tech head coach Grant McCasland said. “They’re a team with an identity, a plan, and won’t beat themselves. We’ll have our hands full and will need everyone to show up to the USA.”
