Spring was at Lowrey Field and it all looked good from my end. I thought Rob’s thoughts were great and I’ve watched about half of the scrimmage. And as head coach Joey McGuire noted when he stated the presser, he’s used to having good defensive performances and I’m pretty excited about having a well-rounded team that’s capable on both sides of the ball. I don’t need to see an offensive explosion, I think Kittley, Shough, and Morton will work it out, but it’s great seeing an even affair with plenty of defensive highlights.
Baseball took 2 of 3 from Baylor over the weekend. I was hopeful that they could sweep the Bears because the Big 12 race is tight and Baylor has been terrible. Texas Tech plays Abilene Christian today with a road trip to Manhattan this weekend to play Kansas State before finishing Big 12 series at Morgantown and West Virginia and home to Kansas.
West Virginia – 8-4, 29-11
Oklahoma State – 11-7, 28-13
Kansas State – 9-6, 26-16
Texas – 8-7, 27-15
Texas Tech – 8-7, 29-13
Oklahoma – 7-8, 22-19
TCU – 7-8, 22-18
Kansas – 5-10, 19-21
Baylor – 6-12, 15-25
Via CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, the NCAA approved the rule in all divisions other than Division III, to keep the clock running after first downs, which had been the rule since 1968. Dodd also writes about how this week in Irving, the powers that be are meeting to discuss future playoff schedules, payouts, playoff venues, etc. I’m not that much into the weeds on that stuff, but those meetings start today.
I have the new eligibility chart sort of waiting in the wings as Daniel Batcho made it official and transferred to Louisiana Tech along with former assistant coach, now head coach for the Bulldogs, Devin Hester. I think there’s a pretty obvious need for there to be some size on the roster and I’m sure McCasland knows that too.
