Starting 5
1. Stats. Texas excels at shooting inside the arc really well, 22nd in 2-point shooting, and they make free throws, 29th in the nation. Add to the equation the idea that they turn the ball over at a relatively low rate, 69th in the nation and that’s sort of the idea behind the offense. Defensively, the Longhorns are elite at forcing turnovers, 27th in the nation, but they are just okay at lots of things (this is not intended to be a backhanded compliment). The Longhorns are 199th in offensive rebounds allowed and 273rd in opponent free throw rate.
2. Scouting. The main ball-handlers are Carr, Rice, and Allen. Each one of those players shoot 2-point shots really well and it’s strange to see how they really excel at far 2-point shots, Carr, Rice, Allen, Cunningham, Disu and Bishop all shoot above 46% at a minimum, which is really good. That’s where the Longhorns make their money.
3. How They Match Up. Texas Tech needs some momentum and it would be nice for it to start now. The turnover issue continues to be a deal for Texas Tech and was able to overcome them against K-State. I don’t see that happening against Texas (would like to be wrong). Get to the line for Texas Tech. I’m also not sure what to do about the starting lineup, presume that Adams will do the same thing as against UT, which is to start Fisher. Fisher is a better defender, but Walton (theoretically) is a better offensive player.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:
Texas Tech has won three of its last five games coming into an 8 p.m. ESPN Big Monday matchup where it will look to take down No. 5 Texas at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders (13-12, 2-10 Big 12) are coming off a 71-63 win over No. 12 Kansas State on Saturday night, while the Longhorns (20-5, 9-3 Big 12) rolled to a 94-60 victory against West Virginia in Austin. UT took a 72-70 win over Tech in the first matchup between the two teams this season. Tech is currently 10-4 on its home court this season, including knocking off ranked conference opponents in its last two home games.
“They’ve got the oldest team in the conference and are playing like it,” Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said. “They are very physical so we’ll have to try to figure out how to match that physicality. We’ll have to play extremely well and need a great crowd for the game. We’re excited to play them. They’ve gotten even better than the last time we saw them in Austin.”
