Starting 5

1. Stats. Baylor is incredible offensively, a top 5 offense overall, largely because they rebound on the offensive end of the floor, 8th in the nation, and get to the line, 27th in the nation. When you take as many outside shots, that’s a bit easier to rake in those boards. From a shooting perspective, they are human, very good, but not great, 93rd in 3-point shooting and 132nd in 2-point shooting. Defensively, Baylor has lost a bit since conference play has started, they are still decent, 62nd in the nation, in forcing turnovers, but the defensive numbers don’t pop like they did earlier in the year.

2. Scouting. George is a joy to watch, he’s a top 15 or 20 pick it would seem. George has the ball a ton, a 31% usage rate is high and he’s not a great shooter, but he’s a really good player. Flagler shoots 42% from deep, but just 41% from inside the arc. Maybe don’t let him shoot deep. It didn’t occur to me that this Jalen Bridges was the same player for West Virginia and he’s maybe the all-around best player, but he’s only shooting 28% from deep.

3. How They Match Up. If you ever want to know what the spread might be, go check the advanced stats sites. T-Rank has Baylor as 9.3 point favorite and that’s what the spread is. This will be a tough ask for Texas Tech on the road, but the good news is that Texas Tech is playing better. I’m not certain that Aimaq and Isaacs are going to play, I’d guess that Aimaq is closer than Isaacs, but I really don’t know. As we’ve said previously, solve the turnover issue, which I think is being solved, and this is a very good offense.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

The restoration project of its season continues this weekend for Texas Tech which travels to Waco for a matchup against No. 11 Baylor at noon on Saturday inside the Ferrell Center. CBS will televise the game with Ian Eagle and Bill Raftery on the call.

The Red Raiders (12-10, 1-8 Big 12) are on a two-game winning streak following a 23-point comeback that resulted in an 80-77 overtime win over No. 13 Iowa State on Monday after a 76-68 victory at LSU last Saturday in Baton Rouge. The wins snapped an eight-game losing streak. Nine games remain on the regular-season schedule for Tech to fight back into an opportunity to make the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight time. On the other side, Baylor (16-6, 5-4 Big 12) had been on a six-game winning streak before taking a 76-71 loss to No. 10 Texas in Austin on Monday night. The Bears won the first matchup, 81-74, against Tech in Lubbock on January 17 after the Red Raiders had swept the series last season.

“We’ve won two in a row now and our guys are confident,” Texas Tech coach Mark Adams said. “I’m proud of the way they finished our last game and we’re ready to build on that. We know how good Baylor is. We were fortunate enough to beat them there last year, but it is a very tough place to play. They shoot the ball really well there so we’ll have to find ways to try to disrupt their offense.”
