“As I’ve talked to my counterpart at the University of Texas,” Hocutt told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “While all the right things have been communicated to me, it’s concerning that in the last couple of weeks I’ve heard from individuals in Dallas, in Fort Worth and in Midland that there’s different things being said from those folks representing the University of Texas and that a scheduling alliance against Texas Tech is not going to happen.”
Del Conte has cited the uncertain scheduling model awaiting Texas in the SEC, where the debate is about eight conference games vs. nine.

Chris Del Conte, however, says not so fast.
Asked if this is Texas’ last trip to Lubbock, the Texas athletic director said, “I wouldn’t say that. I anticipate we’ll play Texas schools in the future when our schedule allows. I can foresee us playing games against teams in our state. Hey, I’m an old Southwest Conference man. All we need is (Humble broadcaster) Kern Tips doing the games.”
Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt remains more optimistic about ongoing games between the two.
“Based on what Chris has told me,” Hocutt told the American-Statesman on Wednesday, “as well as Gov. (Greg) Abbott pledging he would be our champion and giving us assurances that it would happen, I believe so.”
