Buchanan was a 2021 commit, redshirting the 2021 season and will be a redshirt freshman for the 2022 season. Buchanan is originally from Calallen and as a senior he had 33 different offers, including 9 different Power 5 offers. Buchanan was a composite 86.08 player, which is a high-end 3-star player. His film indicates that he’s a huge frame with a mobile body that definitely moves bodies and definitely has a bit of nastiness to him as he finishes blocks even if he’s out of the play. Having a year at USC surely helped with strength and conditioning and technique, which pretty much all offensive linemen have to improve upon as then enter college. Not a ton of pass-blocking video, almost all running, so that may be something he has to improve upon (we don’t know because there’s just nothing there).
This is the fourth scholarship transfer for the offensive line (there have been other JUCO transfers in I believe, but do not know if they were scholarship): Michael Shanahan (UT-Martin); Monroe Mills (Oklahoma State); and Cade Briggs (New Mexico).
