1. Stats. Oklahoma beat Baylor largely because they forced a ton of turnovers on defense, but on offense, they struggled with turnovers themselves, as well as offensive rebounding and free throw rate. Traditionally, the free throw rate, 279th in the nation, and turnover rate, 347th, are not good points for the Sooners on offense. On defense, they are very good and are excellent at holding opponents from the 3-point line, 43rd in the nation, and great at forcing turnovers, 67th in the nation.
2. Scouting. Oklahoma smoked Texas Tech in Norman largely because they swung the ball so well and were able to get open shots that way. I’d gather that Oklahoma will 100% try to do that again. It worked really well and they are obviously equipped to do that. Statistically, Tanner Groves is still the Sooners’ best player, an excellent rebounder and shooter, but he hasn’t quite hurt Texas Tech. Gibson absolutely had his way against Texas Tech in Norman and then had a normal game in Lubbock. Holding him will be key. Hill has turned out to be a really nice player and he’s the type of player that would play at Texas Tech because he plays that wing type of position.
3. How They Match Up. I don’t think that Texas Tech will lack motivation for this game and my thought is that the Oklahoma game in Norman still sits wrongly in the back of Mark Adams’ mind. Texas Tech’s defense is absolutely on a tear and the return of McCullar helps the offense look so much smoother. His participation is so critical to the actual advancement of this team.
