I’m losing track, but believe that Tyrone “TJ” West is the 8th commit of the 2023 class with receiver Kaleb Smith and athlete Anquan Willis being the 9th and 10th commitments (their profiles are upcoming).
After a great Junior Day visit and talks with @JoeyMcGuireTTU and @jkbtjc_53 I have decided to COMMIT to play for the best @TexasTechFB . I also want to thank my mom, my head coach @blitzemD and recruiting Coord @Coach_RobMurphy #WreckEm ❤️🖤 pic.twitter.com/YUPkuLmYqT

RedRaiderSports’ Ben Golan which is informative. I have struggled to find stats on West, but that’s because we learn that Humble had a freshman quarterback and went 2-8 last year, so his stats aren’t going to pop:
What the coaches like about him: “At my school this year our quarterback was a freshman, so it’s not like I had a breakout year but I still did pretty good. I held my own. They said they liked how humble I was and how I dealt with my situation, I didn’t complain about it.”
West’s video is good, you can tell he’s a big athlete and he’s blocking when he can. The few catches that were made are more than acceptable. My guess is that he’s probably a high-end athlete that is going unnoticed because he’s on a terrible team. And I’d also add that Humble is 5-19 in basketball and 0-8 in district, so it sounds like they are struggling overall (I was looking for basketball and track stats on West). As a sophomore, West ran a 22.5 second 200m and a 18’5″ long jump. And another situation where Texas Tech was the only offer.
