RedRaiderSports’ Matt Clare spoke to Lewis about his commitment to Texas Tech:
“After the basketball game, we all went to the football field and the coaches were showing highlights on the jumbotron. I was talking to the coaches, Coach (Marcel) Yates and Coach Perry, and they were asking how long it would take to make me a Red Raider. I told them that I was ready right now, and I committed right there on the field.
“It was a great reaction from everyone, all of the coaches came over and Coach McGuire was pumped up. It feels great, and I’m very happy. I had already talked with my parents before the visit and we thought it was a good decision.”
Lewis is really rangy, very long athlete and so you get the idea where he will be a safety when he adds weight to his frame. Lewis is an aggressive tackler, constantly beating blockers to make a play (granted these are highlights) and that’s sort of what you want from a safety with his length being a key aspect to him being able to play the pass.
And I think I’m just at the point where I have to trust what McGuire is doing in terms of recruiting players. Lewis has 1 offer and it is Texas Tech. Normally, we’d all convince ourselves that the coaches know what they are doing all along and we’re all just sort of saying that to make ourselves feel better. With McGuire, if there’s anyone that knows kids, it’s him and I have to think he knows what he’s getting.
