Texas Tech Football: Player Tracker 2022.01.26

I’ve been keeping a list of players returning, departing, transferring, and undecided and wanted to go ahead and throw that out there today when there’s no basketball. The biggest news this week is that UT receiver Joshua Moore originally committed to Texas Tech, but then decided that he wanted to attend SMU, so there’s that.

Returning:

LB Krishon Merriweather
S Marquis Waters
DB Adrian Frye

Departing:

QB Henry Colombi — Transfer to Marshall
C Dawson Deaton — Declared for NFL Draft
OL Casey Verhulst — Not returning
IR Dalton Rigdon — Going to graduate school
K Jonathan Garibay — Declared for NFL Draft
LB Brandon Bouyer-Randle — Transfer
DL Nelson Mbanasor — Transfer
QB Maverick McIvor — Transfer

Undecided:

DL Devin Drew
DL Troy Te’o
LB Kosi Eldridge
LB Matthew Young
RB Chadarius Townsend

Transfers In:

WR Jordan Brown (5-10/160) | Kansas
WR Brady Boyd (6-1/185) | Minnesota
OL Cade Briggs (6-4/287) | New Mexico
S Tyler Owens (6-2/204) | Texas
LB Dimitri Moore (6-3/208) | Missouri State
OL Monroe Mills (6-6/290) | Oklahoma State
OL Michael Shanahan (6-5/310) | Tennessee-Martin

I’ll keep this updated as we move through the offseason. I’d also add that there are preferred walk-ons that have also committed and I haven’t tracked those. I think there was an offensive lineman from a JUCO that’s committed and there’s been a preferred walk-on quarterback that’s chosen to attend Texas Tech. That’s always a bit of a moving target because if that player gets a better offer then they might make a different decision. The arrival of two significant offensive linemen, Briggs and Shanahan are significant. I don’t know if Mills is a scholarship player but included him because I wasn’t sure. I would bet that you could peg Briggs and Shanahan as starters.

I’m going to be having my gallbladder removed tomorrow morning in what should be a minor procedure and will be back at things on Saturday morning. I’m probably going to just post an open thread for tomorrow and then I’ll have the preview and game-day thread on Saturday for the game against Mississippi State. See you all soon.
