1. Stats. I was somewhat shocked when I looked at the advanced stats. Iowa State is not a balanced team at all, they’ve completely bought into defense and if I had to guess, they probably play at a slow pace and would have no issue keeping the score low. Offensively, Iowa State is a high turnover team, 241st in the nation, but they are the 51st best team in offensive rebounding percentage and they are 80th in free throw rate. From a shooting perspective, they aren’t terrible, 133rd in 3-point percentage and 101st inside the arc. Defensively, the Cyclones shine, they are 9th in the nation in eFG% allowed, 6th in forcing turnovers and their only weakness is putting opposing teams on the line, 288th in opponent free throw rate. They are 4th in the nation in 3-point percentage allowed and 61st inside of that.
2. Scouting. Brockington is an interesting player because he’s 6’4″, but he’s rebounding the hell out of the ball, the best defensive rebounder on the team, so he’s a heck of a leaper or just understands out to situate his body. He’s an excellent shooter as well, making 52% of his 2-point shots and 43% of his 3-point shots, while having a low turnover rate. Kunc, Grill, and Enaruna are the team’s best shooters as well, Kunc makes 52% of 3-point shots, Grill makes 43% and Enaruna makes 50%. Those are eye-popping to an extent, but Jackson at the point is a volume shooter and making 39% which isn’t good or bad and Kalscheur is only making 23% despite putting up the most attempts. Conditt is a strong rebounder on the offensive end, as is Enaruna and Hunter is the best passer on the team.
3. How They Match Up. This should be a fun slug-fest! Not having Shannon and Wilson certainly hurts Texas Tech’s chances to win, but I think this will be a pretty even game. Texas Tech is 22nd in the nation at making 2-point shots, so they’ve done a good job of making teams pay. Of course, they haven’t played a ton of teams with real inside threats. The turnover percentage on offense is the most worrisome thing and the free throw rate on defense is also an issue for me. I don’t worry about the defense for Texas Tech really much at all and think that this will be a close game.
One last thing to mention. Based on this video and a Ryan Mainville tweet from last night, Kevin McCullar is in street clothes and may have injured an ankle. If McCullar is also injured, I think Nadolny gets the start and then just move everyone up a spot.

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:
A three-game stretch against nationally-ranked opponents to start Big 12 play begins for No. 25 Texas Tech against No. 11 Iowa State at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
The Red Raiders (10-2, 0-0 Big 12) come into the game fifth in the nation with a 12.4 rebounding margin, are 12th with a 20.0 scoring margin, 14th in scoring defense by limiting opponents to just 58.2 points per game and are limiting teams to 37.6 shooting which ranks 17th nationally. The Cyclones (12-1, 0-1 Big 12) dropped their first game of the season with a 77-72 loss at home to No. 1 Baylor on Saturday. ISU is fourth nationally by holding opponents to only 25.3 percent on 3-pointers and is ninth with teams only scoring 57.7 points per game.
