According to FootballScoop, Oregon defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter will be named as the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech. Oregon’s defense was 42nd Sharp College Football, 119th in defensive drive efficiency, 8th in explosive drives, 11th in play efficiency, 16th in defensive negative drives, 39th in defense effective rush, and 57th in defense effective pass. According to FEI, Oregon was ranked 44th. Via CFB Graphs, Oregon was 55th in game EPA, 53rd in yards EPA, 43rd in rush EPA, and 65th in pass EPA.
From a traditional statistical standpoint, Oregon was 60th in points allowed, 42nd in yards per play, 40th in yards per rush, and 31st in yards per pass.
DeRuyter was the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M for a couple of years and then moved on to be the head coach at Fresno State for a handful of years where he was eventually let go. I believe this is the first defensive hire and then my guess is that the staff will come together over the next couple of days.
