There are no games to be played, but my guess is that there’s going to be a lot of things happening today. With the Lincoln Riley to USC bombshell yesterday, things got really interesting. My guess is also that Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire will start to fill out his staff today and if I just have a basketball post up there’s really not a place to discuss football things, so here we are.
- Apparently Josh Bookbinder will be an assistant coach in some capacity. He’s the grandson of Grant Teaff, graduate of Baylor, coached at Liberty before arriving at Baylor in 2019 as a quality control coach on the defensive side of the ball.
- Mark Tommerdahl will be the new special teams coach at TCU, which I am pretty well fine with. Kickers were good, but coverage and returns were pretty rough under his tenure.
- With Riley going to USC, this sets off a domino effect of coaches needed to fill programs. I wonder how fast OU calls Matt Campbell at Iowa State? And with LSU, OU, Washington, and Virginia Tech all open, there’s going to be a lot more that happens and my guess is that McGuire will do his best to take advantage of the disruption at other programs, not in an underhanded way, but in a way that simply takes advantage of what he does best, which is relationships.
- College feels like a soap opera now more than it ever has before. I’m here for it.
This is not football related, but would like to give a special shout-out to Tony Graystone and the volleyball teams, players, coaches, support staff, etc., as they’ve reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001. Imagine plugging away at something for such a long period of time and after 20 years you finally make it to the dance. Congrats to those ladies!
