Starting 5
1. Stats. Statistically, they are pretty rough with 4 games under their belt. they are not a good shooting team, turn the ball over quite a bit and have a ton of their shots blocked. Defensively, things are not much better. The Panthers allow teams to shoot really well 290th in 2-point shots and 334th in 3-point shots, allow a ton of offensive boards and free throws and that probably plenty. From a wins-above-replacement standpoint, a win for PVAM would be .69 wins, which would be a ton.
2. Scouting. It’s a bit rough, but teams like Grambling State and Prairie View A&M hit the road to start the season and play all of the teams that need games to earn some money. “Earn money” seems like a bad way to phrase that, but they are putting money in the coffers of PVAM. They will be on the road until January at which point they will play Jarvis Christian. Seriously. Daniels is the best player and best shooter for the team, 60% from inside the arc, but not great deep, only 28%. Douglas is the highest usage player, but didn’t start, is a good rebounder, doesn’t turn the ball over, but isn’t necessarily shooting lights out, only 44% from the floor and 17% from three. Not a good rebounder really on the team, not a great passer, but they do a good job of not turning the ball over.
3. How They Match Up. Want a disturbing statistic? And maybe this is just an early-season thing, but Texas Tech is 326th in opponent 3-point percentage, which makes them 291st in eFG%. That’s terrible and am sure that this is appoint of emphasis. The other defensive metrics are fine, they are doing great at limiting offensive boards, forcing a ton of turnovers, and decent in most other metrics. Offensively, Texas Tech is 1st in offensive rebounding and 49th in 2-point shooting. That’s pretty good.

A bit of an explanation. Pop Pop Isaacs originally committed to Texas Tech and then decommitted and has now re-committed to the good guys. This is a good get for Mark Adams, obviously this was an issue when he decommitted, but hopefully this is it. Isaacs is to sign on Tuesday according to Ben Golan.

Texas Tech is set to close out a three-game home stand to begin the season by hosting Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. on Monday at the United Supermarkets Arena.
The Red Raiders (2-0) have started a season with two straight wins for the seventh straight year after opening with an 89-74 win over North Florida before taking an 88-62 victory over Grambling State. PVAMU (0-3) is playing at Oklahoma State today after playing two games in California last week and against Michigan in Washington D.C. on Saturday. TTU is 7-0 all-time against the Panthers, including a 79-51 win on Dec. 14, 2014 in the last matchup.
