Setting the Big 12 Table | Week 2

Baylor
Opponent: Texas Southern
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 6:00 pm
TV: Big 12/ESPN+
Line: N/A
Commentary: When I go through these scores on the ESPN site, it lists the leading passer and that was the QB for Texas State, Brady McBride for 156 yards, which means Baylor’s QB did not throw for more than that. Texas Southern will most likely prove to be an easy win, but we won’t know a ton about Baylor after two weeks.

#7 Iowa State
Opponent: #18 Iowa
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 3:30 pm
TV: ABC
Line: ISU -3.5
Commentary: A close win or loss to Northern Iowa is almost a yearly tradition, the Cyclones winning 16-10. Surprised that this offense struggled so mightily. This is the game of the week as far as I’m concerned. ISU gets to prove that they are a big boy and should have the team that’s absolutely loaded to do it. Iowa jumped all over Indiana last weekend and looked very good doing it.

Kansas
Opponent: @ #22 Coastal Carolina
Date & Time: Friday, September 10th @ 6:30 pm
TV: ESPN2
Line: Coastal Carolina -27.0
Commentary: The Jayhawks were able to come away with a hard-fought home win against South Dakota last weekend, 17-14. Until Kansas gets a quarterback, they’ll probably continue to struggle. Playing Coastal Carolina will probably be a very tough game to win for Kansas, especially on the road.

Kansas State
Opponent: Southern Illinois
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 6:00 pm
TV: Big12/ESPN+
Line: N/A
Commentary: Maybe the Big 12 team of the week as the Wildcats hammered Stanford, 24-7 at home. Live gets much easier for Kansas State this week, although Southern Illinois is a much better passing team than Stanford is/was. Probably a better offensive team.

#2 Oklahoma
Opponent: Western Carolina
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 6:00 pm
TV: N/A
Line: N/A
Commentary: Eeek. An incredibly close for comfort game with Tulane that Tulane had a shot of winning at the end (although it would have been far-fetched). Another weak opponent for Oklahoma, not sure how much we’ll really know after this game and if they’ve solved their issues.

Oklahoma State
Opponent: Tulsa
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 11:00 am
TV: FS1
Line: Oklahoma State -12.5
Commentary: I didn’t really know much about this game other than the final score and I didn’t see where Spencer Sanders played. Still, this game should not be this close. Tulsa lost a stinker last week and if Sanders plays, this shouldn’t be all that close, but OSU can be weird in the non-conference portion of the schedule.

TCU
Opponent: California
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 2:30 pm
TV: ESPNU
Line: TCU -9.5
Commentary: TCU throttled Duquesne, 45-3 and they should have. A much tougher game for the Horned Frogs. Cal lost to Nevada and the offense really struggled.

#21 Texas
Opponent: Arkansas
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 6:00 pm
TV: ESPN
Line: Texas -6.0
Commentary: The only Big 12 team that beat a ranked opponent, surprised that Bijan Robinson didn’t carry the rock more, but a 20-point win is very good. The Longhorns will play a future conference mate. Arkansas’s quarterback is 6-3/245 and an absolute load. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. The Razorbacks beat Rice, but was probably too close (38-17)

Texas Tech
Opponent: SFA
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 6:00 pm
TV: Big 12/ESPN+
Line: N/A
Commentary: I thought this was the second most impressive win of the week, but am obviously biased. Houston is a tough squad and was surprised about the turnovers. Texas Tech shouldn’t get much of a challenge against SFA (and next week either). If Texas Tech does struggle, then yes, you should be concerned.

West Virginia
Opponent: Long Island University
Date & Time: Saturday, September 11th @ 4:00 pm
TV: Big 12/ESPN+
Line: N/A
Commentary: A tough loss on the road to Maryland, 30-24, with a West Virginia offense that’s probably going to struggle for the better part of the year. Maryland is improved though. WVU should wax Long Island as I recently learned that they actually play football, which I really didn’t know. I knew they played basketball as they were an opponent for Texas Tech basketball at some point.
