Texas Tech Football Notebook: Shough Wants to Do Everything to Help the Team Win

Dallas Morning News’ Ryan Mainville with some quotes from Tuesday’s presser including quarterback Tyler Shough just wanting to win:

“We really have that chip on our shoulder from past years of struggles,” Shough said as he reflected on the program’s dreary recent history.

Shough won four games as a starter last season, but preparation will undoubtedly be key in a new offense. Instead of going home to watch TV or play on his phone, Shough says he has been staying at the team’s practice facility until 9 p.m. most nights.

“I want to win,” Shough said as he reasoned the long nights.

“I want to do everything I can to help this team win.”

Inside the Red Raiders’ Jarrett Johnson has 10 takeaways from the presser from Tuesday as well including this bit:

Wells listed some veteran players on Houston’s roster which could present problems for Texas Tech on Saturday.

“I do think they have experience, they’ve got older guys who have played in games. They’ve got a returning quarterback (Clayton Tune) that’s started, I think, just a little bit less than 20 games, almost a 20-game starter. So, I know that’s certainly a strength for them. I think those two corners (Marcus Jones and Damarion Williams) are legit, they’re really good players. And I think the punt returner (Marcus Jones) is one of the best in the nation, he’s proven that. They’ve got a strong d-line. You know, they’ve got weapons, they’ve got skill guys that when they get the ball in their hands they’re dangerous. They’re a good team, they really are. I think when you add older guys like they have that certainly adds to their mix and makes them an older team.”

Plainview Herald’s Nathan Giese on defensive lineman Tony Bradford, Jr. not having much to say to his former teammates:

When Texas Tech and Houston take the field on Saturday night in NRG Stadium in front of an national television audience, there will be plenty of connections between players on both sides of the ball. Some of those connections come via the transfer portal as former Red Raiders Ke’Sean Carter and Ta’Zhawn Henry will be the very guys Bradford and the Texas Tech defense try to shut down.

That doesn’t mean much to Bradford. To the Red Raider nose guard, they’re simply the enemy.

“It’s just like going against any other opponent, honestly,” Bradford said earlier this week during Texas Tech’s media availability. “There’s not much to say to those guys other than ‘Good luck.’ I’m not really interested in having a conversation with them until after the game.”

Heartland College Sports’ Matthew Postins previews Texas Tech vs. Houston with a favorable prediction for the Red Raiders.

This is related to college football, but not really related to Texas Tech, Inside Hook’s Paul Lukas breaks down all of the uniform changes for college football. From major to minute changes. I enjoy this sort of stuff, but I know this is a meta thing that only some people enjoy.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach takes a look at every conference, so if you’d like a general idea college football preview in one spot, this is a good place to start.
