Texas Tech Football Notebook: Big 12 Previews & More

CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval has some Big 12 predictions for your perusal. There’s no mention of Texas Tech really other than the predicted order of finish, which for most of the writers it is an 8th place predicted finish.

Fansided has a similar Big 12 preview that is something to read (not great, but it’s something). I guess that’s what we’re doing with the season start so close.

Dallas Morning News’ Ryan “Main Man Money” Mainville has both the worst case and best case scenarios for Texas Tech. I’ll post a bit from the worst case and make you click on over for your daily dose of optimism:

The worst-case scenario for the Red Raiders this year is that they simply continue to repeat mediocrity in a season where it feels fair to be optimistic. Another four- or five-win season and Texas Tech will have not only repeated another unenjoyable viewing experience, but also wasted one of their best rosters in recent years through the process. It would likely mean a staff house-cleaning, which only time will determine if that would be a good or bad move, but would also almost certainly be followed with an adjustment period. Another sub-.500 season — where the on-field product could get even worse — is a nightmarish outcome for this year’s team.

24/7 Sports’ Dean Straka has 10 unanswered questions heading into the 2021 season:

TEXAS TECH: IS TYLER SHOUGH ABOUT TO PUT ON A SHOW IN LUBBOCK?
The 2020 season saw Texas Tech finish fifth in the Big 12 in passing offense, the lowest mark for the Red Raiders in that department in more than a decade. Of course, quarterback play in Lubbock has not been as stable as the program would like it to be in the years since the Patrick Mahomes era, and as Matt Wells enters his third year as head coach, his coaching staff can only hope that the addition of Oregon transfer Tyler Shough pays dividends.

Can you imagine being such a terrible person that you’ve screwed an entire university from being a player in expansion?

With everything happening, I haven’t even thought about recruiting, but RedRaiderSports’ Matt Clare has the top 4 remaining targets for Texas Tech.
