Bethany, Oklahoma cornerback Jocelyn Malaska (6-1/170) becomes the 7th commit for Texas Tech’s 2022 class. Malaska is originally from Haiti, being adopted in the 5th grade. The commitment video is more about Malaska’s back-story than anything else, but the joy of his teammates when he announces is pretty fun too.
As some of you know, both of my boys are adopted, my first son is from Ethiopia, and my second son is from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a good story.
Malaska shows a real quickness to the ball and excellent speed. In fact my guess is that his speed is incredibly raw and put in him a strength program where he can develop and he’ll take off most likely. You always like the idea of a cornerback willing to go in and make tackles, especially on those short screens is impressive. I’d think that Texas Tech is taking a chance on Malaska’s future ability and willingness to work more than anything else. Malaska mentioned that the focus of his athletic career was generally soccer growing up and that’s pretty normal for a country like Haiti, learning that transition takes time. The fact that Malaska is only 170 and with a 6’1″ frame means that he’s likely going to fill out nicely as well.
