Texas Tech to Promote Mark Adams to Head Coach

Texas Tech has confirmed that they will promote associate head coach Mark Adams to the head coaching position.

Adams is a graduate of Texas Tech in 1979, was a coach for 23 seasons and had a record of 554-244 with stops at Clarendon College, Wayland Baptist, West Texas A&M, Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Howard College, with a National championship at Howard College in 2010. Tubby Smith then hired Adams to be Texas Tech’s Director of Basketball Operations before following Chris Beard to Arkansas Little Rock and then arrived at Texas Tech where he became the Associate Head Coach.

A handful of former players expressed their support for Adams who has never been given a chance at his alma mater: Keenan Evans, Norense Odiase, Matt Mooney, Tariq Owens, Zach Smith, and Justin Gray.

The thought is that Adams will need to hire some talented assistant coaches and recruiters. I’d also add that that there is likely no love-lost between Adams and Chris Beard if Adams was willing to stay at Texas Tech for the interim. Additionally, Kevin McCullar confirmed that he will return to Texas Tech.
