Starting 5

1. Stats. Oklahoma is a really good offensive team, so I’m a bit worried about playing the Sooners. The Sooners shoot the ball really well, 55% eFG% and don’t turn the ball over really at all, 16th in the nation. Where the Sooners really excel is at the free throw line, 8th in percentage, and are top 50% in buckets inside the three-point line. Defensively, they’re not that great at much, but they are really good at limiting free throws, so they don’t foul at all.

2. Scouting. Reaves is so good offensively. That assist rate is really stupid and that’s going to earn him money if he’s even remotely athletic. Reaves isn’t a great three-point shooter, but he’s terrific inside and at the line. Manek is also good offensively, but he’s terrific from deep, 45% from the three-point line and that’s a guy that I can see Shannon taking. Harmon is great inside the arc as well and just doesn’t turn the ball over. Kuath has a terrific block rate.

3. How They Match Up. The biggest disparity is the Oklahoma offense and the Texas Tech defense, a bit of a battel of wills. A bit concerned with Oklahoma at home and T-Rank is predicting that OU wins by 1. There’s the thought (see below) that McCullar plays, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I also tend to think that Edwards is going to have his hands full with Reaves if that’s who he covers and Shannon is going to have to run out on Manek every time he’s outside the line.

4. Tweet of the Day. Who is that guy in the last picture? Not sure if I recognize who might be getting some shots in before a bit road game. Maybe his name starts with a “Mc” or something?

5. Official Site. The official site has their preview right here:

Texas Tech is set for its first Big 12 road test of the season when it takes on Oklahoma at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

The No. 14-ranked Red Raiders (6-2, 0-1 Big 12) are coming off a 58-57 loss to No. 5 Kansas last Thursday in Lubbock, while the Sooners (5-1, 1-0 Big 12) secured a pair of non-conference wins over Oral Roberts and Houston Baptist last week. Tech enters the week second in the nation by limiting opponents to only 52.4 points per game and is seventh with an 8.5 turnover margin advantage and 20.0 turnovers forced per game. The team also ranks sixth in the NCAA with 144 made free throws and is second in the Big 12 with 118 assists and 34 blocked shots.
